Good afternoon,
today I'd like to talk about the good work some friends of mine are undertaking in Brazil.
They are involved in 'permaculture', a set of principles aimed at designing systems/ways to work with nature. It is an ecological design system that creates ways forward to use at best the natural resources available.
Permaculture is for people who believe we need to go back to nature and see what it has to offer, without destroying the resources. Some believe this system should form the base for an ecological sustainable development, addressing and solving issues at local level. These guidelines can be equally applied in rural communities or in urban settings. It is about looking around us and understanding our environment.
REDE PERMANECE has been established in the North Eastern Brasilian State of Ceara', in Fortaleza, to address problems affecting communities there. Problems are far and wide, ranging from improving rural communities to addressing issues in cities.
Some of the people working hard to make this venture a success are:
João Paulo Duarte Diniz
Marcelo Sindeaux
Patrícia Martins
Daniel Arruda
Rafael Barros (SP)
Their collective effort is admirable. At present their blog is in Brazilian Portuguese.
